Clemson University and Corebridge Financial have been named first place winners of a 2026 Pensions & Investments Eddy Award in the Conversions / 403(b) Consolidations category. The award honors Clemson and Corebridge for their collaborative effort to transform the Clemson University 403(b) Plan, making retirement planning simpler for faculty and staff.
Clemson and Corebridge reduced the number of Clemson 403(b) retirement plan providers from 16 to two while making several plan enhancements, including lowering fee structures, offering new investment choices, and adding a Roth contribution option. The plan now also features a digital experience that makes it easier for faculty and staff to enroll, make contribution changes, manage their account and get access to financial education and planning resources.
“This recognition reflects our shared commitment to helping Clemson faculty and staff successfully navigate retirement planning and achieve the future they envision,” said Jan Myers, Senior Director of Compensation and Benefits, Clemson University. “With Corebridge, we were able to bring forward a top-tier retirement plan and a modern, digitally-enabled experience supported by the guidance of financial professionals. All this was achieved while streamlining the retirement savings process for our employees and simplifying plan administration.”
Key to the success was a comprehensive communications and education campaign, including emails, a transition guide, webinars and in-person seminars. More than half of the plan participants engaged with a Corebridge financial professional who provided one-on-one support to ensure savers understood the plan changes and features to help maximize retirement outcomes. Financial professionals also offered personalized financial and retirement planning guidance – a plan benefit that is continuously available to participants to and through retirement.
“Corebridge is honored to share in this recognition with Clemson, which demonstrates the power of our relationship,” said Terri Fiedler, President of Retirement Services at Corebridge. “Clemson’s clear focus on helping their employees retire with confidence, and Corebridge’s deep experience serving the higher education market enabled us to collaboratively transform the University’s 403(b) Plan, deliver meaningful enhancements and make it easier for faculty and staff to take action.”
The Pensions & Investments Eddy Awards recognize employers in the private, public and nonprofit sectors and their service providers for their focus on helping workers achieve a dignified retirement.
